High Water Bill?

Can’t find a water leak? We know Atlanta water rates are crazy high compared to other places, but you should call a plumber to check for Leaking Pipes.

High Water Bill No Visible Leak?

Don't Let This Happen to You - "Atlanta homeowner says his water bills shot up into the hundreds of dollars for no apparent reason."

"The Department of Watershed Management report from the data logger indicated that there was a continuous leak."

One call does it all!! Once we have repaired the leak, you can send/fax in a Water Service Leak Adjustment Form.

How to detect a leak:

If you think you may have a water leak, try starting with the water meter. First locate the meter, if you do not know the location, your County water department can help you. Sometimes the meter box has some water in it, this does not necessarily mean that you have a leak—it may just be ground water—you may need to pump it out. Once you find the meter, raise the lid (use caution not to break the wire connecting the meter to the lid). Find the dial on the meter. Second, make sure that you have turned off all fixtures & appliances in your home that use water. Next check the triangle on the face of the water meter for movement. If the triangle is moving something in your home is still using water (try checking your toilets to see if running) or you have a water leak.

How to read your meter:

First look at your most recent water bill. Current reading would be your previous reading. Just subtract the current reading amount from the reading now and that will tell you the amount of water usage since your last bill. Water bills are based on gallons of water used in your home.

Check for toilet leaks:

Is your toilet running? Toilet leaks are probably the most common source of water leaks and can quickly run up your water bill using up to hundreds of gallons of water a day. First, wait 10 minutes after you have last flushed the toilet. Second, Take off the tank lid, if the water level is too high and falling on top of the overflow—you have a leak. Third, put in some food coloring drops in the tank…Wait 30-45 minutes, if the colored water appears in the bowl—you have a leak.

Service Line Leaks:

A water service line is the water line (typically under your front lawn) providing your home with water from the meter to your house. Finding a leak in this line can be difficult without a professional, but there are some things you can look for:

  • Do you have a high water bill?
  • Do you hear the sound of running water when your fixtures are not being used?
  • Do you see any wet spots in your lawn for no reason?
  • When you turn on your faucets, is the pressure very low?
  • Do you water leaking into your basement or crawl space?

If yes to any of the questions, you may have a leak in your water line. To check the water line for leaks; turn off your main water shut off valve inside of your home. Next, check your water meter, If the meter is turning, your water line has a leak. Water lines can usually be repaired and or replaced by a plumber.:
